Take advantage of lucrative refer-a-friend programs to make money with the click of a button. Whenever someone is approved for a new American Express Credit Card using your link, you’ll receive a bonus to reward you for your efforts.

How to Refer-A-Friend with American Express

To enroll in the refer-a-friend program, you must first own a qualifying card. They offer many different cards with various reward structures and benefits and American Express is accepted at over 99% of businesses.

You’ll first need to login to your account

Select Your Referral Card

If you have multiple American Express cards, select the one that you would like to refer from.

Select “Refer Now”

After you’ve selected your card, click “Refer Now” to access the refer-a-friend program page.

You will then land on a webpage that gives you the option to either enter your friend’s email address or receive a link that you can share with them.

What Cards Can I Use the Refer-A-Friend Program On?

American Express offers the refer-a-friend program on almost every card but there are some things to keep in mind.

If you hold a regular American Express-branded card, you are eligible to refer any other cards.

If you hold a co-branded card, you can refer friends to any other card within that suite.

How Many Referrals Can I Make with American Express?

There are some limits to the amount of referrals American Express will allow per account. Each card has different limits, so it’s a good idea to check out how many referrals you can make before promoting your links.

Will I Receive a Bonus if a Friend is not Approved?

American Express will only offer bonuses if your friend is approved for their card. That means you should make sure that your friend has a good chance of being eligible before asking them to apply.

When Will I Receive my American Express Refer-A-Friend Bonus?

It can take anywhere from a few days to 12 weeks to receive your bonus, so don’t fret if you do not get it soon. If you are unsure of if your referral has been processed you can contact American Express support for additional help.

Once you’ve obtained your referral link, you’ll need to promote it so that others can sign up. You should ensure that you are promoting your links in accordance with American Express program guidelines.

If you have social media profiles, there’s no better way to earn money than by promoting your links for your friends to use. You can easily access hundreds of social media users, increasing your chances of maxing out your refer-a-friend limits.

Tell Family

Be sure to share your links with family to receive even more exposure. They can then share your link as well, which can drastically increase the amount of sign ups you get.

Talk to Friends Looking for a New Card

You can speak with others who might be looking for a new card and ask them to use your referral link to cash in. It’s wise to get a good idea of what card they are interested and what features they might need before asking them to sign up.

It is against American Express’ terms to promote your links with paid advertising. If you do so, any earnings you receive will likely be withdrawn from your account.

Many people might be hesitant to use a referral link for credit cards because they might think that this would make them ineligible to receive any standard sign up bonus from the card issuer. This is not the case, however. With American Express, applicants are eligible to receive any standard sign up bonus when using a friend’s referral link.

Can I Refer Myself a New American Express Card?

If you already own an American Express Credit Card, you might be wondering if you can refer yourself for a new card to earn referral points.

The simple answer is yes, you can refer yourself using American Express. This allows you to cash in on the both the referral bonus AND the standard sign up bonus on your new card.

Note: This is not technically permitted in the American Express terms and conditions so be on the lookout if your account stops earning rewards as they might have suspended your rewards.

The American Express Refer-A-Friend program is a great way to earn some extra rewards without spending any money. You can choose to submit your friend’s email address or share the link yourself to encourage others to apply for an American Express credit card. American Express is a reputable company that offers many benefits to cardholders including frequent credit limit increases.

The amount you can earn depends on the number of friends who use your link and the type of card they are approved for.

You should always check the latest terms and conditions to ensure that you are following guidelines appropriately so that you can earn the maximum amount of rewards possible.
