What is a Blog?
The term blogging has changed over the last few years.
Previously, blogging was about sharing your personal thoughts, feelings, and experiences with the world.
Today, it’s a little different. While you can certainly still do that, now it can be a method of making money online.
You can write about any subject you want, whether it’s your personal life or a how-to guide on fixing a car. There are many types of blogs that make money.
The important thing is that you find a niche, or group of people, that you can target with your content.
Is Blogging Worth it?
When deciding whether or not it’s worth it to start a blog, you first need to think about your goals and ambitions.
Are you starting a blog for fun? Or are you trying to start a profitable blog?
For people who are serious about blogging, it’s completely worth it.
For others, blogging can be a fun creative outlet to share their lives and experiences with the world.
No matter what your reasons are for wanting to start a blog, there are many benefits that you can enjoy.

Benefits of Blogging
There are many benefits of blogging that might inspire you to start your blog. A few of the best are below.
Go At Your Own Pace
Blogging doesn’t have to be a full-time job right from the beginning. You can start slow and gradually build up your blog as you have time.
This is perfect for people who have a full-time job or other commitments that don’t allow them to dedicate 40 hours a week to their blog.
You can start by posting a few times a week and gradually move up to posting every day.
Write About What You Love
When you start a blog, you get to write about whatever you want.
This is perfect for people who have a passion for a particular topic but don’t necessarily want to pursue it as a career.
For example, if you’re passionate about cooking but don’t want to be a chef, you can start a blog about cooking.
Unlimited Income Potential
One of my favorite benefits of entrepreneurship and blogging is the income potential.
By starting a successful blog you can make a tremendous income, sometimes even six or seven (yes seven!) figures per year!
While this won’t happen overnight, after a few years of hard work you can build your passive income stream up to a point where it can replace your full-time job.
My portfolio of blogs now make over $15,000 a month, and it’s completely passive income. That means I make money even while I sleep!
Ability to Work from Anywhere
Another major benefit of blogging is the ability to work remotely from anywhere in the world as long as you have a computer and internet connection.
If you want to make money with a laptop, blogging can be a great option.
This is perfect for people who want to travel or live in multiple locations.
If you want to become a digital nomad, blogging is an excellent option to become your own boss.
Low Cost to Start
If you want to start a business of any kind, you’re going to need some money to get started.
But with the cost of starting a blog so low, it’s a viable option for any aspiring entrepreneur.
Starting a blog will cost less than $100 per year. This means if you’re no longer interested in pursuing your blog, there isn’t much recourse if you quit.
However, this can also be a disadvantage for some bloggers. Because the initial investment is so low, many bloggers will give up if they don’t see results quickly.
Tips to Start a Profitable Blog
Below are some of my best tips to start a profitable online business.
Find a Niche
Finding the right niche is essential to success when blogging.
While you might be tempted to write about anything and everything – it’s important to have some focus if you want to be successful.
For example, my niche is personal finance and investing.
But you can start blogging about anything.
Do Keyword Research
If you plan to focus on search engine optimization to gain traffic to your blog, you’ll want to do plenty of keyword research to find what people are searching for online.
Most new bloggers will fail to do proper keyword research and as a result, they’ll never get the traffic they want.
There are several keyword research tools available, but my favorite is Ahrefs. You can also use a free tool like Google Keyword Planner but this can be a bit more difficult.
When doing keyword research, there’s a few things you want to look for:
- Some volume
- Low difficult to rank for
- Blogs with a similar back link profile ranking one the first page
Invest in Content
Creating high quality content is vital to success in any online business, but it’s especially important when starting a blog.
If you’re competing in a crowded niche, blogs that have the best content will often rank near the first position in search engines.
What is quality content?
This will vary from niche to niche, but in general, quality content is well researched, thoroughly planned and expertly executed.
It should also be free of grammar and spelling errors.
There’s no magic word count for quality content, but as a general rule, longer blog posts tend to perform better.
In the personal finance niche, for example, most of my top articles are over 2,000 words.
Content is not just words, however.
Creating quality content also refers to the images and pictures within your blog post and the design of your blog.
If you want to be successful at content marketing, having the best content is critical.
When search engines were first started, it was hard to decipher which content was the “best” that they should rank in the first position.
To help decide, most search engines use back links as a way to help decide which content is better than others.
The idea behind this is that website owners and online publishers will likely only link to sites that offer quality content.
So, if you want to rank higher in search engines, you need to build links to your site.
How do you do this?
There are a few ways, but some of the best include:
- Responding to HARO pitches
- Guest posting
- Email outreach
Building links can be one of the most difficult tasks for most bloggers.
It can take a long time and your results aren’t guaranteed, but if you want to rank higher in search engines, it’s a necessary task.
Utilize Social Media
Social media can help you drive traffic to your blog and build an audience.
While organic traffic can be a long-term strategy, social media is a great way to get traffic in the short-term.
It can also help you build relationships with other bloggers and influencers in your niche.
There are a number of different social media platforms you can use, but some of the most popular include:
While social media is a great way to get traffic, it’s important to remember that it shouldn’t be your only source.
Diversify Your Traffic Sources
Having multiple sources of traffic can be a great way to lower your risk when it comes to blogging.
Relying on a search engine through organic traffic can be great, but if there is a major algorithm change, your blog could be in trouble.
Try to gave several different streams of traffic to your blog so that if one disappears, you’ll still have others to fall back on.
Some other traffic sources you can use include:
- Social media
- Paid traffic
- Email list
- Referral traffic
Network with Other Bloggers
To grow a successful blog, you need to be able to network with other bloggers.
This can help you in a number of ways, including:
- Getting guest posting opportunities
- Getting help and advice
When you network with other bloggers, it’s important to remember that it’s a two-way street.
You should be willing to help them out as much as they’re willing to help you.
Because most bloggers are solopreneurs, networking with other bloggers can help you to stay motivated and inspired.
Making Outsourcing Your Friend
As you continue your blogging journey, you may get to the point where you need help to keep the blog going.
This is when outsourcing can be your friend.
There are a number of tasks you can outsource, including:
- Writing blog posts
- Designing graphics
- Posting on social media
- And much more
When it comes to business, it’s best to do what you do best and outsource the rest.
For example, if you don’t enjoy writing blog posts – this can easily be outsources to a freelance writer.
If you don’t enjoy the technicalities of running a blog, find someone who does and have them help you.
Outsourcing can be a great way to free up your time so that you can focus on the tasks that you enjoy and that are the most important for growing your blog.
Avoid Focusing On the Wrong Things
There are so many different aspects of blogging that it can be easy to get caught up on.
Core web vitals, anchor text optimization, and other SEO tactics can be tempting to focus on, but if you’re not careful, you can quickly get lost in the details.
Instead of focusing on things that don’t really matter, focus on the things that will have the biggest impact on your blog – content.
Some of the most successful bloggers have focused on creating great content and letting the blog grow organically rather than focusing on the intricate details.
How Much Money Can Blogs Make?
Your income potential with blogging is limitless.
As long as there is content to be consumed and a way to monetize it, there is potential to make money.
There are many different ways blogs make money.
Some of the most popular include:
- Display advertising
- Affiliate marketing
- Selling products and services
- Consulting and coaching
Some of these income streams are more passive than others, but all of them can help you make money with your blog.
To make money blogging, you must first gain traffic to your blog. You can use some of the tips above to help you grow your traffic.
Then, you can start thinking about you to monetize your blog traffic.
The easiest ways to earn money blogging is through display advertising and affiliate marketing.
There are several display ad networks you can use including Ezoic, Adthrive, and Mediavine. Some ad networks have higher traffic requirements than others so be sure to find one that suits your blog.
Another common method is affiliate marketing. By promoting affiliate links within your blog posts, you can make great money from your blog.
The amount of money you can make blogging will ultimately depend on how much traffic you can get and how effective you are at monetizing your work.
Some blogs make over 7 figures each year while others only make a few hundred dollars.
It all depends on your traffic level and monetization strategy.

If you want to make more money from your blog, here are a few tips.

Is Blogging Dead?
Contrary to popular belief, blogging is far from dead.
In fact, blogging is thriving thanks to popular search engines exploding with traffic.
Content marketing is rapidly expanding as brands realize the power of having a blog.
Overall, blogging is still a great way to earn money online and build a business.
Is Blogging Still Relevant?
Blogging is 100% still relevant and can be a great way to earn money online.
Blogging businesses can make great money by driving organic traffic to their site and monetizing with display advertising, affiliate marketing, or selling digital products.
